On March 23, 2020, Iris Cheung, one of our law students from ProBono Canada, will conduct a webinar on the legal aspects of non-profit organizations. Iris is in her third year at the University of Ottawa. Her study focuses on business law and she intends to practice intellectual property law after graduation. ProBono Canada is a national student organization with a mandate to provide legal services without charge to community organizations under the supervision of qualified lawyers.
Iris will discuss such topics as: the role of directors and their primary responsibilities, non-profits and director liability; advantages and disadvantages in incorporating non-profit clubs; fundraising and club operating expenses; donations and tax receipts; the soon to be implemented Ontario Not-for-Profit Corporations Act and its impact on CFUW clubs.
There will be a question and answer period.
Please note that the webinar does not constitute legal advice as Iris, as a student, is not qualified to do so. What will be provided is legal information, which is a general description of the state of the law and not based on specific facts.
