IWD Fundraising Project

Each year CFUW National encourages our 100 Clubs to fundraise for a common project related to women’s rights in the lead up to International Women’s Day. The projects are chosen from applications sent in by international and national organizations that support women’s rights. Checks can be made out to Canadian Federation of University Women with TEMBO Canada or IWD Fundraising project in the memo.

Project 2021: Eight on Eight – A Canadian-Tanzanian Dialogue in Celebration of IWD

TEMBO Canada (Tanzania Education and Micro-Business Opportunity) is an organization that aims to raise awareness and funds to support their Tanzanian partners in providing educational and micro-business opportunities for girls and women. The project, an online webinar event called Eight on Eight, will bring together four voices from Tanzania and four voices from Canada for an innovative and thought-provoking discussion to share perspectives on gender equality, education, culture, work, community and the prevention of violence. This event provides a unique opportunity to use technology to connect voices over a distance of more than 13,000 kilometres in a discussion on gender equality and the prevention of violence through differing lenses.

CFUW members are encouraged to attend this FREE event on March 8, 2021. Click here to register!

Project 2020: “Promoting Justice for Women in Antioquia, Colombia”

CFUW’s International Women’s Day Fundraising Project for 2020 is “Promoting Justice for Women in Colombia,” a project supported by Inter Pares and implemented by their Columbian counterpart Humanas. CFUW is excited to partner with Inter Pares for a second year. Inter Pares is an organization that has worked for over 40 years with organizations from around the world to build peace, advance justice and globalize equality.

Last year we raised over $3,000 for Inter Pares and Humanas! We received an update on our sponsored project to promote gender equality in Colombia. In the cities/regions of Antioquia as well as Quibdo, Humanas has held workshops on sexual and gender based violence and gathered information to present to Colombia’s Truth and Reconciliation Commission.  CFUW is continuing to help fundraise for this project, which is taking important actions to address gender based violence. The deadline to raise funds for the International Women’s Day Fundraising Project for Inter Pares is June 1, 2020.

We hope CFUW members will consider donating to the Inter Pares IWD project to support women and girls that were victims of sexual and gender-based violence in Colombia’s armed conflict. Rita Morbia, Inter Pares Co-Executive director shared with us a few words on this exciting partnership:

As one of Canada’s foremost and longest-running women’s organizations working on a diverse array of issues that intersect with women’s equality, CFUW is an important force in Canada in the struggle for women’s rights. Inter Pares is grateful for CFUW’s generous support of our work with Humanas to promote justice and peace for women in Antioquia, Colombia.
