Canada acceded to the ICCPR in 1976. Since then Canada has periodically reported to the UN Human Rights Committee on its progress implementing the Convenant. Following a review of Canada’s reports, the committee delivers “Concluding Observations” with recommendations on how Canada can better fulfill its obligations under the Convention. Civil society organizations are invited to participate in these reviews by consulting with the government, submitting parallel reports, and even attending the Committee review in Geneva.
Canada just underwent its last review in June 2015.
