United Nations

CFUW monitors and reports on the human rights situation of women and girls in Canada and worldwide. One important element of this work is to encourage governments in Canada to fully meet their human rights obligations under various United Nations Conventions and agreements. We report on abuses to UN Committees and Commissions, and urge politicians to fully implement recommendations.

Commission on the Status of Women

The Commission on the Status of Women (CSW) is the principal global intergovernmental body exclusively dedicated to the promotion of gender equality and the empowerment of women. We participate in the CSW every year by submitting a statement to address the Commission and by sending a delegation of our members to engage with the international community on issues of gender equality. CFUW retains special consultative status with the Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC), the Commission’s parent body, and is represented on the Canadian Commission for UNESCO, Education Sectoral Committee.

The sixty-fifth session of the CSW will take place virtually from 15 to 26 March 2021, due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
